painting on wood surfaces

Tip #1: Adding acrylic to wood surfaces can add a rustic aesthetic to the overall finished painting.

Tip #2: There are a couple ideal steps to take when prepping wood surfaces, prior to adding paint:

Step 1 - Lightly sand surface if prefer a smoother finish

Step 2 - Add a couple layers of gloss medium to wood surface to protect against SID (Support Induced Discoloration)

Step 3 - Clear gesso can be added to create more tooth, while leaving the ground color unchanged

Tip #3: To protect the painting once completed, add a couple coats of polycrylic or varnish over the entire surface.
